Bir Devinder Singh slams Punjab Government for not taking adequate steps to fill the vacancies lying vacant in Punjab Civil Services (PCS) for the last 3 years.
Former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh in a statement issued here today criticised the incumbent AAP Government, headed by Bhagwant Mann for not taking adequate measures to fill the vacancies, lying vacant in the Punjab Civil Services for three years.
The Punjab Public Service Commission should have advertised these vacancies to select the deserving candidates. But unfortunately, no initiative appears to have been taken neither by the State Government nor by the PPSC, for the last three years.
Since The Chairman of PPSC Jagbans Singh retired on 25 March 2023 and the process for the appointment of new Chairman may take some time, meanwhile many more deserving candidate would become over-aged.
Many have already lost hopes to serve in the Punjab Civil Services due to the pathetically uninspiring and callous attitude of the Incumbent and the previous State Governments; who were never worried for the career of the promising youth of Punjab.
Bir Devinder said, by doing so, the government has already sinfully played with the future of many career conscious youth, who were preparing meticulously for the competitive exam, required to clear for the PCS and allied services.
Its pertinent to mention here that when during the previous Congress regimes, there was apparently inordinate delay in appointing the Chairman of the PPSC, the then State President of AAP youth wing Gurmeet Singh, Meet Hayer who now is Cabinet Minister, had vociferously condemned and had stated that such a delay in appointing the Chairman of PPSC, is anti-youth.
But now after forming AAP government in Punjab, Bhagwant Maan has miserably failed to get the vacancies in the Punjab Civil Services advertised and accelerate the pace for the selection of the candidates by the PPSC. The present State Government of the Aam Aadmi Party is committing the same mistake as of the previous governments to ruin the bright future of the youth of Punjab.
Bir Devinder Singh said the State Government and the Punjab Public Service Commission should exactly follow the pattern and schedule that is being followed by the UPSC – Government of India and Public Civil Services Commission of other states, and conduct exam regularly every year.

UPSC releases their yearly calendar of exam with dates to facilitate students to prepare for the exam on time. But unfortunately, on the contrary, the last notification of Punjab Civil and Allied services was issued by the Punjab Public Service Commission on 2020 and thereafter no such posts have been advertised for the last 3 years and with the consequence several students have become age- barred and ineligible resultantly for no fault of theirs’s.
