President notifies appointment of nine Supreme Court judges #IndiaNEWS
President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday notified the appointment of nine judges to the Supreme Court, Live Law reported. The notification came after the Centre cleared all the nine names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium, The Indian Express reported.After the new judges take oath, the Supreme Court will have a working strength of 33. There will be one vacancy, NDTV reported.The newly-appointed judges are Justice AS Oka, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice JK Maheshwari, Justice Hima Kohli, Justice BV Nagarathna, Justice CT Ravikumar, Justice MM Sundresh, Justice Bela Trivedi and Senior Advocate PS Narasimha.The recommendations given by the collegium on August 18, included the names of three women judges. Justice Nagarathna of the Karnataka High Court could become the first woman Chief Justice of India in 2027.Narasimha is a former additional solicitor general and the senior advocate has appeared in several important matters, including the Ram Janmabhoomi case.The appointments to the Supreme Court were the first since September 2019, according to Live Law....Read more
