JCMS celebrates Justice Mehar Chands birth anniversary #IndiaNEWS #State

JAMMU, Dec 23: Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha (JCMS) celebrated Justice Mehar Chand Mahajans 132nd birth anniversary with solemnity and fervor in a function held at Mahajan Bhawan, Shalamar Road, Jammu.
The function started with lighting of traditional lamp, recitation of Gyatri Mantra and paying floral tributes to portrait of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan.
JCMS president Romesh Gupta, while remembering Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, said that it was he as a member of Radcliffe Boundary Commission for Punjab who ensured road connectivity to Jammu through Gurdaspur, without which accession of the State with India could not had been possible. Later as Prime Minister of J&K, Justice Mahajan was instrumental in getting the States accession with India, he added.
Romesh Gupta said when Justice Mahajan retired as 3rd Chief Justice of India, there was no pendency of cases in the Court. His role as a social reformer within the community and outside would always be remembered, he said and described him a great patriot with whose efforts J&K became part of India. Gupta also spoke about simplicity of Justice Mehar Chand and said that he was against unnecessary extravagant in marriage which should be followed by all biradaries even now.
Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Chander Mohan Gupta also graced the occasion. He highlighted the achievements of Justice Mehar Chand and recalled his early career.
Ravi Rohmetra, a noted columnist, spoke about the life history of Justice Mahajan and recalled his contribution in different capacities like member of Radcliffe Boundary Commission on Punjab and Prime Minister of J&K. He said as Chief Justice of India, Justice Mahajan laid foundation of the existing Supreme Court complex in 1954.
