Telangana: 39 govt polytechnics to go for NBA accreditation #IndiaNEWS #News
Hyderabad: In a move by the Commissionerate of Technical Education that would further improve the quality of education, a total of 39 government polytechnics across the State have been identified to go for the accreditation of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in the first phase during the academic year 2022-23.
These government polytechnics were chosen out of 54 with a total intake of 12,042. The accreditation process is used for assessing and evaluating standards and quality of education a higher education institution imparts to its students. It also helps to ascertain an institution’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. A degree obtained from an NBA accredited institution has higher value among the recruiters.
For providing necessary technical skills besides life, communication, IT and entrepreneurship skills to students, 13 more Skill Development Centres (SDC) are being established in the government polytechnic colleges. Each SDC will have 30 computers, a hall with a carpet area of 1,000 sft and relevant software like AutoCAD, progeCAD, VMWare, Total Station. The government has already accorded administrative sanction for setting up of 41 SDCs in 40 government polytechnics and one aided college with a project cost of Rs 30 lakh for each SDC. The idea of the SDCs is to improve placement records and also produce entrepreneurs.
For systemic skill development among students from the first year itself, Industrial Mapping is being planned for every polytechnic college in the State. As part of this the syllabus will be revised and faculty development programmes will be conducted for upgrading faculty domain knowledge and skills.
Plans are afoot to revamp the existing courses in the polytechnics besides introducing new need-based courses after studying demand in the market. It has been decided to strengthen classrooms in the government polytechnics as e-classrooms. They will also be provided with e-library facilities and modern laboratory equipment.
