And for most Bengalis, even today, taal michhri is synonymous with the octogenarian Dulal’s.Growing up in Kolkata in the 1990s, I was accustomed to seeing a jar of Dulaler Taalmichhri, with its canary-yellow and ink-blue label imprinted with silhouetted palmyra palm trees, in our mesh-doored pantry cabinet.
