Hyderabad: Hari Singh Bista, a ball boy with the Sreenidhi Deccan Football Club, racing against all hurdles to make it to the upcoming TAFISA national level boxing championship.
The 17-year-old lad trains after completing his duty in the academy as ball boy. Staying in Moinabad, it becomes difficult for him to travel to GHMC Ground, Secunderabad every day to train with Krishna. So he travels twice a week for practice. “Being a ball boy, I have to fulfill my duties. After the session, I train until 9 in the night. I travel twice a week to Secunderabad to train with my coach,? he said.
The young boxer had won bronze in the Telangana Boxing Federation’s Aelay Narendra Memorial Boxing Championships in the 54 kgs category recently. He was a quarterfinalist in the 52 kgs event of the junior nationals held at Pawal, Haryana in 2018. He also reached the quarterfinals in the youth nationals held at Sonipat, Haryana last July. Hari Singh won gold in the 54kgs category of the TAFISA Open National Games conducted in Haryana in April 2021.
Hailing from a poor background, Hari Singh is grappling with financial woes as his parents could not support his passion. His parents migrated from Nepal three decades ago to Hyderabad in search of livelihood. His father works as a security guard in an apartment near Secunderabad while his mother works as a maid. With both of them in their old age, the youngster had to work to make the ends meet.
However, he is determined to make a mark. “I have been boxing since I was 12 years old and I am delighted to get into the State team for the nationals. I am working hard to get a gold in the national meet. I want to make my parents and coach proud,? he revealed.
When asked about his goal, the boxer revealed, “I want to do well and get into the Indian camp. My goal is to represent the country and to get medals at the international level.?
Speaking of Hari Singh, coach Krishna said, “He is a very talented boxer and hard worker with good abilities. He not only trains with me but also gives fitness and strength coaching for fellow boxerp˂[H[][XYܚYH[[[H^Hۈ[Yܘ[H]Y^KXH[XܚXKX[[[H^HXXYH[]
