Hyderabad: American automotive aftermarket parts provider Advance Auto Parts opens its Global Capability Centre (GCC) here on Monday. The Hyderabad centre is the second largest such centre outside of the company’s headquarters in North Carolina in the United States and it employs over 800 people currently.
The Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao informed Hyderabad’s growing technology talent has the potential to make the city the hub for automobile technology. He urged companies like Advance Auto Parts to make the city the single-stop-shop for all their business needs.
“This is the first automobile company that has set up its technology presence in Hyderabad and is the second largest office outside of its headquarters in the US. With this, the company has joined the list of marquee companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft, he said.
Rama Rao also elaborated that while the government of India has set the net zero emission target to 2070, the State plans to achieve it much before. He said that the State is working with sustainable mobility companies in order to achieve the target. “We are also going to host the Formula-E next year in February and also plan to host the Electric Vehicle Summit around the same time. It is a right opportunity for a company like Advance Auto Parts to make their presence here in Hyderabad, he said.
Advance Auto Parts CEO and President Tom Greco termed Hyderabad as a mobility cluster and said that they chose the city for setting up the GCC after going through multiple options like Taipei, US and even Bengaluru in India.
“The vibrant talent pool and growing infrastructure are the major factors which made us zero down on Hyderabad to set up our GCC. Last year we had the highest growth in the history of the company and this has come majorly from the contributions of Hyderabad centre. Going ahead, we are planning to invest more in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence capabilities, Greco said.
