Roads, sanitation to get lion’s share in GHMC Budget #IndiaNEWS #Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), in its annual Budget for 2023-24, has earmarked a lions share for the development of roads and sanitation. The proposed overall annual Budget of GHMC is Rs 6,224 crore of which the civic body allocated Rs 1,530 crore for roads and Rs 1,048 crore for health and sanitation.
The GHMC has also increased its Budget by Rs 74 crore compared to the previous year. In 2022-23, the Budget was Rs 6,150 crore. In the other proposed expenditures, the GHMC will spend Rs 294 crore on greenery, Rs 700 crore on land acquisition, Rs 510 crore on nalas and Rs 240 crore on street lighting. The remaining proposed spending will be on establishment expenditures, debt service and other expenditures.

This year, the GHMC also plans to generate Rs 2,000 crore through property tax and Rs 1,750 crore through building permits and the fee collected by the Town Planning wing of the corporation. The GHMC will also generate revenue through fee and user charges for services offered by its different departments. For the upcoming financial year, the GHMC has set a target of Rs 3,967 crore in revenue income and 3,557 crore in capital expenditure.
According to the budget estimates, the Pattana Pragati and Fifteenth Finance Commission grants are pegged at Rs 834 crore and the proposed borrowings are Rs 1,218 crore. All these components included, the budget for the year 2023-24 which is Rs 6,224 crore and it will be discussed before being approved said, Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi. She mentioned that the revenue surplus is Rs 1,300 crore and the capital receipts which comprise revenue transfers, plan grants contributions, etc is Rs 3,557 crore.
The Revised Budget Estimate (RBE) for 2022-23 has also been increased to Rs 6,475 crore from Rs 6,150 crore and compared to the previous year, for the upcoming financial year, the GHMC has increased its budget by Rs 74 crore, she said.
